Who I am…
If asked to sum up my skill set in one phrase it would be “A Problem Solver”.
My Story
I am a Innovative IT Professional with Proven Entrepreneurial Success, now living and working in Fort Collins CO.
Initially, my career started after receiving my MBA with a focus in Computer Informaion Systems. This eventually led me to a career with a large telcome company where I went from a software test engineer to a lead J2EE development engineer working as part of a large rapid application development (XP) team. We worked at the forefront of web based technolies. Our team was the first in this fortune 500 company to implment many new technologies such as Web Services , SOAP, XML, EJB’s and many others that where at the time considerd cutting edge…
The Start of a new Direction
After six years working on a collaborative team and racking up many achievements I found myself longing to break out on my own and launch my entrepreneurial career. I Left the safety of my 9-5 and launched several of my own online brands.
In 2008 my business where doing well and I had a new endeavor. That was when I conceived of and launched Big Shot Bikes, an online retailer offering affordable mass customized bicycles.
The success was immediate and the company grew rapidly. Within three years I had moved the company into a 7,000sf warehouse and sales where approaching 2 million annually. I did not stop there, I then took the company from being solely online to selling wholesale to brick and mortar independent bicycle shops. We added 80+ dealers in our first year. All the wile I was developing new bike models and expanding our online business. In 2013 Myself and Big Shot Bikes where featured in Entrepreneur Magazine for my innovative use of technology and the mass customization of bicycles.
By 2018 the company had sold over 40,000 bikes and was a nationally know brand. We had received a lot of recognition and had even expanded internationally with a few foreign distributors in South Korea and Serbia. But by this time we had also hit a plateau and I once again was longing for change. It was then the I decided it was time for me to implement my exit strategy and sell the company. This is what I did and thus the start of a new chapter…….

Thank you very much for the interview, Matt! It will be interesting to see whether your predictions regarding Mass Customizaion as a trend hold true in the future or not. In any case, best of luck for your business and thank you for your insight!

More than any bike part, building process or business relationship, Matt Petersons software skills are what drive Big Shot’s success. It is not the first company to offer mass-customized bicycles, but its iPad-friendly interface could make it the most successful.
